I have been head teacher since 2009 and I have overseen enormous change during that time which has helped to create a safe, happy and thriving environment for our young people.

I can talk with immense pride of our wonderful children whose behaviour is of the highest standard and the culture of togetherness they display daily towards one another.  The children of Dame Dorothy Primary are our greatest asset and that is why everything we strive to achieve as a staff is to provide them with the best possible start in life.

Examination results should not be the only indicator as to whether a school is good or not.  But nevertheless we are very proud of the wonderful results we have achieved at the end of key stage 2 since 2011.  We are a high performing school, ranked nationally in the top 10 percentile for all subjects in 2014 and 2015 and have continued to perform well against the raised national expectations from 2016 onwards.

Music, PE and new technologies are also at the core of our relentless drive to provide our children with life enhancing experiences. All children in key stage 2 have the opportunity to learn new instruments whilst sporting opportunities are plentiful as we seek to make the very best use of government funding for PE.  The school is leading the way in the city of Sunderland to provide our children the best provision for IT in a constantly changing technological world – we will endeavour to stay one step ahead.

We begin this learning voyage early at Dame Dorothy, very early! Our day care provides a stimulating and safe environment; many of whom continue their education in our school early years when they turn three.  This seamless transition provides parents with great comfort, knowing that their children are part of the Dame Dorothy family.

I have immense pride in our school, the children, staff, governors and parents and I thank you all for the contribution that you have made to make Dame Dorothy a school to be proud of.

Mr I Williamson
