Football at Dame Dorothy
At Dame Dorothy, football is a game for everyone. Both boys and girls take part enthusiastically, with teams representing the school in local leagues across Sunderland. Football is one of the most popular sports at our school, and we are proud of the achievements and opportunities it brings to our pupils.
Our Year 5 and 6 team had an incredible season last year, finishing as Division C champions—a fantastic accomplishment that reflects the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of our players. We were also especially proud to see our girls’ team competing in a competitive league for the very first time. This was an important step forward for the school, and it showcased the talent, determination, and passion that our girls bring to the sport.
Every week, children at Dame Dorothy have the opportunity to play football. We believe that sport is for all, not just for those in competitive teams, and our inclusive approach ensures every child can enjoy the benefits of physical activity, teamwork, and skill development.
For our younger pupils, we run development squads that focus on building confidence, teaching key skills, and nurturing a lifelong love of the game. These squads provide clear pathways for children to grow as footballers and prepare them for representing the school in future competitions.
Football at Dame Dorothy is about more than just winning matches—it’s about teamwork, perseverance, respect, and having fun. We are proud of every child who pulls on the school shirt and represents our community with pride.
